Ultranote: Why you should care...

I could hype up the next big thing, or whine or intimidate people talking about how Bitcoin and other coins may be "destined" to fail. That's not what this blog is about. No exaggerations or doom and gloom predictions or pie in the sky malarky. In addition to my own take on the cryptocurrency ecosystem, we'll examine up and coming coins that show promise and what's so promising about them. That's why today I'm going to talk about UltraNote, a relatively new CryptoNote coin that I dare say has a lot going for it. This might sound like cryptocurrency marketing, but it's not hype. This cryptocurrency has a lot of features I look for when considering crypto currencies to invest in. The few things it's missing don't detract from what it has to offer either.

What is UltraNote? It's a "clone" of XDN(DigitalNote), with much needed improvements and in my opinion, a promising future- unlike XDN.

So what features make UltraNote so attractive?
  • Security. Being based on Cryptonote means UltraNote is anonymized and encrypted, securing your data from malicious threats.

  • Blockchain deposits: Earn up to 3% XUN per year, or .25% per month, depending on the length of the term of your deposit. Once deposited for a very small fee, it's locked, and can't be spent. At the end of the term, it's released plus interest. This creates an incentive to hold it, making it somewhat scarce, increasing it's value, while at the same time enabling you to earn interest without a bank account, bank fees, etc. It also serves to create a decentralized 'mint'. Why should you care? Instead of a central bank creating cash out of nothing so they can pay your neighbors to build bombs, then taxing them so they don't get to retire, YOU create the cash. Then if those crooks want to start a war or pressure a country to do their bidding, they'll need to get honest work and buy a plane ticket and a flak jacket and hire a team of mercenaries... with their own money. Imagine a world where the only wars were crowdfunded, and we, the people decided when to go to war, build a bomb, or bail out a business that's too big to scale. The central bank, and government are the only two obstacles to this. That doesn't mean we can't have banks or governments, but rather that we OWN them.

  • Fast 2min transaction times and super low fees! This is easy to forget when looking at other features, but when you actually USE a cryptocurrency you can't help the importance of faster and cheaper transactions.

  • Mining directly from the wallet! This isn't unique itself, but along with other features it's a powerful combination. This makes it easy and accessible to those not familiar with command line terminals and the like. It's easy as pie. So easy even a congressman could do it. (A Senator could too, but if you ask them to, they'd probably just tell you they'll consider it and go play golf.)

  • Active, involved, dedicated community. This is one of the things Bitcoin and other coins have going for them that many economists fail to acknowledge. If people value it, then like the dollar, it can be traded to those people for goods/services, and is that much more likely to be adopted as a medium of exchange. Even if Bitcoin was terrible as could be, if everyone thought it was perfection, it would have value and the standard no matter where it comes from, or what problems it has. Just like the Federal Reserve, if everyone believes in it, and uses it, then it's a viable currency.

  • It just looks fantastic! This is not as trivial as it sounds. Having a well organized, polished site, with nice graphics and and neat easy to use wallet/miner makes it very attractive to newcomers in the cryptocurrency sphere. Many cryptocurrencies neglect the fact that mass adoption is not only key, but works best when you're all inclusive. Meaning, if it's hard for people to do or seems poorly designed, you're going to have a hard time getting off the ground. UltraNote doesn't have that problem.

  • They have an online wallet already, along with Mac, Windows, and Linux versions downloadable from their website. Again this goes to the issue of accessibility and they're doing well on that front, with planned mobile versions coming soon. The only quasi-shortcoming here is they never released their 32bit wallet due to various concerns. In the interest of inclusiveness, I've encouraged them to find/update/release their 32bit wallet if possible. The team is always working on improvements so I will keep you posted in future updates. Their 32bit Windows wallet is available here.
  • Payment portals: The team is working to bring a merchant payment solution forward. This again indicates it has the potential to take off and become widely used. If companies like PayPal don't find a way to adapt to the changing times, they may get displaced, much the same way that Google displaced Yahoo and other web search engines years ago.

  • Encrypted Messaging!!! This is important. With this you can exchange information securely, and this could be very useful. Rather than just a thank you or shipping address, the data in the message could be utilized in ways we haven't even thought of. That's on top of sending confidential business details and legal information and the like without a need for third parties or high fees. All in minutes.

  • Partnership with other projects such as IAME, a decentralized, fragmented ID verification system. The idea behind IAME is possibly revolutionary and could end identity theft, as well as the need for trusted central third parties for verification of identity. This is a very big thing. The co-operative open source nature of this technology is a big strength so when multiple teams start working together that's an enormous positive. It's a "force multiplier" so to speak. Even if IAME fails, their idea is sound; this means it's likely something like it will be implemented eventually even if someone else has to pick up the torch. UltraNote's willingness to work with others may just give them that edge that gives them innovative solutions and capabilities other coins can't compete with.

What does UltraNote NOT Have?

  1. Smart Contracts
  2. Cross-chain technology
  3. 32bit Wallet Their 32bit Windows wallet is now available here.
  4. Corkscrew, nail file, or that fine Swiss craftsmanship.

If I had to rate UltraNote's potential from 1 to 10 I'd say it sits at a solid 8.

There's room for improvement, but the foundation is rock-solid and they have a strong team that makes me think UltraNote could 'snowball' into a serious contender in the coming months/years.
